Es geht um die Szene als man in der Rattenkammer darüber diskutiert, dass Nobby Nobbs adeliger Herkunft sein soll:

The guild leaders examined their thoughts and decided that what they did not want was power. What they wanted was that tomorrow should be pretty much like today. (..)

'Speaking as the President of the Guild of Lawyers,' said Mr Slant (..) 'Surely many of you have heard the rumours - that there is, in this city, someone with a bloodline traceable all the way back to the last royal family? Someone working in this very city in a comparatively humble position? A lowly Watchman, in fact?'

There were some nods, but not very definite ones. They were to nods what a grunt is to 'yes'. The guilds all picked up information. No one wanted to reveal how much, or how little, they personally knew, just in case they knew too little or, even worse, turned out to know too much.

However, Doc Pseudopolis of the Guild of Gamblers put on a careful poker face and said, 'Yes, but the tricentennial is coming up. And in a few years it'll be the Century of the Rat. There's something about centuries that gives people a kind of fever.'

'Nevertheless, the person exists,' said Mr Slant. The evidence stares one in the face if one looks in the right places.'

'Very well,' said Mr Boggis. Tell us the name of this captain.' He often lost large sums at poker.

'Captain?' said Mr Slant. 'I'm sorry to say his natural talents have thus far not commended him to that extent. He is a corporal. Corporal C. W. St J. Nobbs.'

There was silence.

Das ist meines Wissens nach die einzige Stelle an der Doc Pseudopolis erwähnt wird. Die anderen Anwesenden sind Dr Downey, Mrs Palm, Mr Potts, Mr Boggis, Mr Sock und Mr Slant - also alles Gildenoberhäupter. Der engl. Text nennt die Gruppe mehrfach The guild leaders. Da würde ich auch draus schließen, dass er Oberhaupt ist. Natürlich könnte das eigentliche Oberhaupt gerade krank gewesen sein oder die Spielergilde anders organisiert sein, so dass sie gar kein eigentliches Oberhaupt haben usw. usf. ...

Das englische Wiki hat noch mehr Infos über seine Namensherkunft, daher scheint er noch mal erwähnt zu werden. Vielleicht gibts auch im DWC einfach einen längeren Eintrag zu ihm. Außerdem hat das englische Wiki zur Spielergilde noch irgendwo diese Infos gefunden: "Presidents are chosen (how else?) by the draw of a card. The current president is Scrote Jones, although a leading member called Doc Pseudopolis (named on the basis that one should never play cards against a man named after a city) represents the guild in the Rats Chamber in Feet of Clay." --Tod 09:32, 29. Hmm.. Das DWC hat keinen Eintrag zu Doc P. Unter Gamblers' Guild wird er nicht erwähnt. Dort steht: Current President (chosen by the draw of a card) is Scrote Jones. Aus diesem Satz bezieht das engl. Wiki sein ganzes Wissen. Ich kann aber keine Romanstelle finden an der das mit dem Karten ziehen gesagt wird. Ein Scan nach Scrote Jones kann ihn in keinem der Scheibenwelt Romane finden. Evtl. kommt er in anderen Werken (Kalender, Tiffany Weh, o.ä.) vor. Das one should never play cards against a man named after a city ist etwas anders fomuliert und steht auch wo ganz anders - und in keinem Zusammenhang mit Doc Pseudopolis. ‘Surrender?’ said Blouse, as Igorina and Wazzer ran into the clearing, armed and bewildered.
‘Yep. I’ll put in a good word for you when the boys catch up with us. You don’t want to know how many men are looking for you. Could I have a drink, please?’
‘What? Oh, yes. Of course,’ said Blouse, as if caught out in a display of bad manners. ‘Perks, fetch some tea for the sergeant. Why are people looking for us, pray?’
Towering gave him a cockeyed grin. ‘You don’t know?’
‘No,’ said Blouse coldly.
‘You really don’t know?’ Now Towering was laughing. He was far too relaxed for a bound man, and Blouse sounded far too much like a nice but worried man trying to appear firm and determined. To Polly, it was like watching a child bluffing in poker against a man called Doc.
‘I don’t wish to play games, man. Out with it!’ said Blouse.
‘Everyone knows about you, lieutenant. You’re the Monstrous Regiment, you are!’ he said.
